About
I'm Murat. Husband, father of three, and someone who's been writing code since age 8. I grew up in a nerdy engineering family where my dad was convinced German was the language of engineering. So I spent my formative years studying every science subject in German, and now I have a language I never get a chance to speak. Thanks, dad.
By day, I build storage infrastructure for GPU compute and AI workloads at a leading neocloud company. I've founded three startups, written two Kubernetes books (Kubernetes in Production Best Practices, Packt 2021 and Kubernetes: A Complete DevOps Cookbook, Packt 2020), hold a patent for modular storage interfaces, and spent over a decade working across the storage stack. Previously I led Global Field Architects at MinIO, and held engineering and product roles at DataCore/MayaData, HPE Storage, and DDN/Nexenta.
Fun fact: I had a tech TV show during my university years. I was also deeply addicted to collecting IT certifications. Over 40 taken. That's a cured disease now, but the scars remain.
When I'm Not Staring at Storage Metrics
Big time Queen fan. I have a dream to play guitar like Brian May, and I'm now making that dream come through with my kids. We're getting there. Slowly.
I'm a graphic art nerd and have been using Adobe's tools since before Photoshop was called Photoshop. Our house is known as "the Harry Potter house" around the neighborhood during Halloween season, which I take as the highest compliment.
I'm stubbornly against digital books. I still buy and read physical copies, about 30-35 a year. I'm also a history geek, especially Sumerian history and the Sumerian language itself. Understanding how civilizations rise and fall helps me see the bigger picture and the seasonal patterns that keep repeating in our observed time.
Other interests: classic cars and classic people.
